WebPlus X2, Perfect Beginners Web Authoring Program

Over the years I’ve used many website editors, from creating websites using notepad to Frontpage, Web Expression and Dreamweaver. I really miss the dropdown menus, e-commerce, and other templates that made Frontpage so easy to use. WebPlus X2 has all of these options and more. RSS tools, dynamic forms, drop-down navigation menus, and media and graphics tools such as YouTube video and podcasting are just a few of the many options available in WebPlus X2. While the experienced web developer who wants to import and modify existing sites, do more hands-on work with CSS or PHP pages, or who is concerned more with industry standards may want to look at a program such as Dreamweaver or Expression Web, for the casual or beginning web developer WebPlus X2 will probably provide all (and more) that they would be looking for in a website authoring program.

Cons:
  • Serif Webplus X2 is a great program in large part because of all the options it provides but if it does have a main flaw then it is that same multitude of options that makes it so easy to use. The options built into WebPlus X2 sometimes make it difficult to modify HTML directly since, like Frontpage, the program depends upon its own modified code. The programs only other glaring weakness is in its ability, or inability, to import existing websites easily. Existing sites can be imported but do not always import correctly.
Pros:
  • The first thing that you may notice after installing WebPlus X2 is that it looks and acts more like a desktop publishing program such as Microsoft Publisher than a web-authoring program. This may take some adjustment for the experienced web developer but once you start using it you discover that this, along with its many tools and options, is one of its strengths. The program is very intuitive to use and allows the beginning website developer to start creating a website within minutes of installation but also offers plenty for more experienced developers.
