This Mac program came with a printed manual which was a full eight pages! Before you shun the product based on this lack of literature, I have to say that I just installed and worked with the program over the last half hour and created a blog page and an html page without reading a word of the manual. And, this is unusual for me; I’m typically “old school” that way about reading instructions. In fact, my guess is I will spend more time writing this review than creating a couple pages in RapidWeaver!
The program is extremely intuitive and comes with 37 predesigned templates you can apply to your own content. Again, this sounds like a limitation; but the Page Inspector gives you the option of changing the page sizes and colors of design elements such as backgrounds and headlines. This extends the 37 predetermined looks considerably.
There are quite a few choices for types of pages you can add, such as a photo album and something RapidWeaver calls an “iFrame,” which lets you insert an external website within your own page. QuickTime movie files can also be added.
Most graphic designers will probably prefer more extensive web design programs for custom, unique sites. But, for authors, bloggers, and family members looking to share thoughts and photos in a less intimidating “code-less” manner, RapidWeaver is a welcome alternative. The only additional requirement is a host to store and display your endeavors. But, this is the case with any web design and/or programming app.
