Not so Impressed

I was excited to receive Kaspersky Internet Security 2010. My wife’s Dell Inspiron Laptop with Windows XP had just had Norton expire and we were looking for PC Security. The setup and install was fairly simple and straightforward. As I was installing the software, it notified me that there was a newer version than the CD I had, and it asked me to install that. I did have to reboot several times which is frustrating to me, but often required for new software. Once the software was installed and downloaded, it took quite a while for the Kaspersky Programming to Update itself from the website. Once the internet security was up-to-date and the first system scan had been completed, I thought things would get better.

Sadly, they did not. My wife’s Inspiron computer slowed down drastically, often taking lots of time to do things such as open Firefox and close a word document. It was so painfully slow that I actually uninstalled Kapersky Internet Security and am no longer using it. Her computer is back to running normally now.

Though I was not happy with the Kaspersky Internet Security package I did like the fact that it included everything one would need in a security package.

Cons:
  • The only major con I saw was the speed that it took away from the computer.  I only had it installed on the computer for close to 36 hours and during that time period it was extremely difficult to navigate the web, use programs, and compute normally.  I really wish I could have used it more, but on a 5 year old computer, Kaspersky Internet was not the solution to our problem.
Pros:
  • It’s pros, in my eyes, were that  it offered everything from firewall to protection to constant scanning while surfing the internet. It even had a Safe Run, that would protect a user while surfing the internet.  The interface, to me, was quite simple and easy to figure out.  I liked the way the program was laid out.
